Getting there...

Omarama is 3½ hours by road from Dunedin and 4½ hours by road from Christchurch.

The two major points of entry for overseas visitors are Auckland and Christchurch. (Australian competitors may wish to fly into Dunedin, which handles only Trans Tasman International flights-and cur down on driving time).

For those not wishing to drive to Omarama the local airfield is capable of handling up to light twin engined aircraft, and it is possible to charter a suitable shuttle from either Christchurch or Dunedin airports.

Most people will probably choose to fly into Christchurch, and take a rental car, van or camper van (RV) from there south to Omarama. All the major rental firms—Hertz. Avis, Budget etc are well represented at all major airports.

A reminder that if people intend combining their visit with a NZ holiday, and visiting both the North and South Islands that they need to plan for ferry crossings—or use internal air travel.

NZ currency is decimal, based on the NZ$ with coinage 10¢, 20¢, 50¢, $1, $2 and notes of $5, $1O, $20, $50 and $100 denominations. All major credit cards are widely accepted.
