Flying at Wigram is an historic experience
There a few sites in the country better than Wigram to fly all types of scale modellers. Those who attended the Classic and Warbird rally at Wigram the weekend after Easter were treated to some great flying from models large and small. Even park flyer foamies were there - all adding to the flavour.
The event is designed to attract scale models from both the Classic civilian era and from the Warbirds stables. This year there were models representing WW1, WW2 and modern military jets.
The wind was present, but it was flyable on both days with Sunday afternoon being the pick of the weather. Warwick Taylor had brought his huge C47 Dakota from Alexandra and Jared Nulholland flew his A-10 and Avro Tutor. Both jets flew majestically and looked marvellous against the historic hangar backdrop of Wigram airfield.
Noel Baker now owns and flies the late Graham Wilcocks’ 1/3 scale Tiger Moth. He has decided to keep it flying rather than commit it to a museum and it is a joy to see in the air. He has had to modify the rigging and trim quite a lot and the results are very good.
The RC Scale SIG donated prizes for the Best Classic (won by the C47) and Best Warbird (won by Alan Woodley’s Spitfire) and the grand looking prize for best prang went to a spectacular crash of Ron Loader’s multi-engine bomber.
Great models, great company and a well-hosted event.
